My guest today are Bipolar Penguin Music who run the YouTube channel with a variety of music! Their catchphrase Healing Souls since 2013 is one that I can agree with since it has helped mine! This is how the interview played out!
3.47: How did the name come about?
Bipolar Penguin Music: We wanted something lovely, memorable, and personal. We both suffer from bipolar disorder so the bipolar part came from here. We love awkward situations and penguins are adorably awkward. So we put the two together and we loved the result.
3.47: I think it’s cool that you’re open about it because a lot of people are normally silent about their health. For myself as well who suffer from depression it’s normally like not talked about and feels like that we should hide away from it but yeah again it’s great that you’re open about it!
BPM: Yes, there is no reason to hide away from it because it will only get worse. Being open about it helped us a lot actually.
3.47: Who are the people behind the Bipolar Penguin Music?
BPM: We are two childhood best friends with different lives, but often similar problems, and the same goal: to make people happy with the power of music.
3.47: That’s awesome that you both working towards that goal and I think you helped a lot people out there! Myself included for sure! I wanted to ask though if it’s not too much, how do you deal with each day? Do you write about it or anything like that?
BPM: Wow that is good to know that we helped you 🙂 How do we deal with it? Our medicine is people like you, knowing that we helped someone gives meaning to our life. Living with purpose is the best treatment.
3.47: How did it first come about opening a channel?
BPM: We’ve spent a lot of time searching for good music and making playlists for ourselves so that when we want to chill out we just start one of those. Then we asked ourselves, why don’t we share it with others? So we made a music channel.
3.47: Glad you did because you opened my ears to some amazing talent out there in the world! You both run B.P.M. which is cool to know, but is there a lot of times where you both disagree on a track to upload?
BPM: It is a great advantage to distribute the tasks between us, but of course we are two different persons with different ideas and opinions, so we do argue once in a while about uploads, design ideas and other stuff. However, we consider this as a positive thing, because we can approach things from different points of views.
3.47: Sounds like you guys are like brothers in that sense of bond! But yeah definitely a positive thing! What I think is cool is that you contact the artist themselves before uploading a song, has there been a time where you really wanted a song upload and the artist has said no?
BPM: We spend a lot of time sending requests to artists, and – as they are pretty awesome people – 99% of those who answer love the idea of getting promoted on our channel (or at least give us their permission to feature their tracks). So, to answer the question, yes, there have already been 2-3 artists who said no.
3.47: Yeah I guess that will always be the case with some saying no for whatever reason. So you started back in October 2013 and now getting close to 75,000 views on YouTube, do you have anything special planned for when you reach that milestone?
BPM: As you may know we always try to make surprises for our audience, and we usually make it at milestones. However, now we are preparing something really big for the one thousand subscribes. But to keep you entertained we will release our next Chill Federation mix on may 4th with two of our close friend channels : Autumn Leaves and Arctic Empire. Make sure you check them out too! May the fourth be with you.
3.47: Oh wow now that does sound big! Are you both Star Wars fans?
BPM: Yeah we are 🙂 Star Wars has a greater message than most people would think.
3.47: Did you ever think it will get this big?
BPM: We find it truly amazing to have reached this number of audience in such a short time but obviously, we have always planned to grow much much bigger, and we will do our best to do so!
3.47: No doubts and to be honest as a fan, I’m enjoying the ride! The sky is no longer the limit, just space as I say! Has the YouTube policy made it harder for you to keep some tracks on your channel at all?
BPM: Not really. I think this new system is working pretty well. Copyright policy is important. However it needs some improvements.
3.47: A lot of people agree with that statement that does need improving! If you both could run it what would you change?
BPM: We would make the rules of monetization more clear first of all, especially concerning remixes, bootlegs and edits. We would also try to make the whole system more user-friendly and easier to understand.
3.47: Quite a few YouTube music channels have their own mechanise, is this also something you are looking to do in the future?
BPM: Well, as we said, big things are going to come when we reach 1000 subscribers… 🙂
3.47: *Throwing money at the screen!* Come on world like make it to 1000!
BPM: You won’t need much money 🙂 We will put no profit on it. Later if we become bigger we will gather money to support noble purposes. Like saving the environment or to help struggling people. We are planning to make a little change in the World.
“My life amounts to no more than one drop in a limitless ocean. Yet what is any ocean, but a multitude of drops?”
― David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas
3.47: Final question, do you have anything you like to say to your fans out there?
BPM: Yes! We want to give a big thanks the two of our loyal followers Zélia Silva and Joseph Nuske for their constant feedback. We want to thank all of you who are listening our channel, you are the ones keeping us motivated. You are our fuel 🙂 Your comments means a lot, we read all of them and if you have a question or suggestion we will surely reply to that. And for our most loyal fans we are planning to give some gifts. 😛 So keep the comments coming!
3.47: Can’t wait to see what you guys got planned next!
BPM: Just stay with us, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed 😉
3.47 would like to say a massive thank you to Bipolar Penguin Music for spending the time doing the interview! Until next time guys!
