Interview: Astronaut

My guess today is none other than Astronaut who is famous for tracks such as Rain (video above), Quantum and Earthsphere to name but a few! They are currently part of the ever growing Monstercat family and are based in Bristol, UK! This is how the interview played out!

3.47: What made you pick the name?
Astronaut: We had an old drum n bass tune called space jam with loads of spacey sounds! it just kinda came from that somehow.

3.47: How long have you been making music?
Astronaut: Forever man…got cubase at like 12. didn’t start dance music till 4/5 years ago tho

3.47: What inspires you as a artist?
Astronaut: travelling inspires me a lot! being out with mates on a good vibe!

3.47: Who would you like to work with next? Anyone famous at all?
Astronaut: noisia please.

3.47: Are you surprised at how big you become?
Astronaut: I wouldn’t say were ‘big’ to be honest! but we’re stoked for all the support – definitely surprised at the reaction when apollo first came out!

3.47: What was your reaction like when you saw the feedback coming in about your music?
Astronaut: well I’m super critical of all our tunes so I don’t listen to the good feedback unfortunately (laughs).

3.47: If you had the power to run your own music label, what would you call it?
Astronaut: Rossy already does! Disciple Recs

3.47: You’re part of the MonsterCat family, how did it all come about?
Astronaut: We did a remix for Hellberg and then I think they stubbled across Apollo on UKF and tweeted us!

3.47: When it comes to being independent what would you say are the advantage and disadvantage you have?
Astronaut: Independent from labels? Personally we love being part of a label family for exactly that reason…the community of producers is really sick.

3.47: Are you playing live events or is that something you want to do?
Astronaut: Yea man gigs are starting to pick up more and more – we spend ages in the studio though and working on our animated movie takes tiiiime!

3.47: What’s your favourite song at the moment?
Astronaut: Bridges – Broods

3.47: What’s the best advice you been given?
Astronaut: Treat studio time as practice! you don’t have to make the best tune ever heard today!

3.47: Would you say it’s easier to do a remix or harder than making your own track?
Astronaut: much easier usually! sometimes they just don’t work in someone else’s style though and you have to be more creative.

3.47: What do you do in your spare time?
Astronaut: I honestly don’t have much spare time, but me and Rossy love living in Bristol and chilling on the harbour side!

3.47: Do you have any other hidden talents?
Astronaut: steel drums man

3.47: If you had the chance to run YouTube what would you change about it?
Astronaut: hmm…make it much simpler again and get rid of google+.

3.47: What can we expect from you in the future?
Astronaut: More of the same really! Got some sick collabs coming soon tho!

3.47: Any words you want to say to your fans out there?
Astronaut: Thanks!

3.47 would like to say a massive thank you to Astronaut for spending the time doing the interview! Until next time guys!
