My guest today name is none than Lowself! He created hits such as Down with you, The high life (video above) and Fall with Laurie Webb doing the vocals. But who is Lowself and why that name? I asked the man himself in this interview!
3.47: How did the name come about?
Lowself: Good question! my previous name was “Fake Static Noise”, now I changed to “Lowself”. FSN was too long and I wanted a new name that fits better to the style of music I want to make now, which are indie/electronic, chillwave and Future Soul
3.47: How long have you been making music for?
Lowself: I started playing guitar and following music lessons since the age of 6. I started “Djing” (well, started learning how to DJ) at 13 and then one year later I started using FL Studio to create my own music. I am producing music since then, now I am 19. Many times at the beginning I almost decided to stop because it was so difficult, and cried a lot thinking it would lead me nowhere 😦 (hehey joking). I struggled a lot to learn how to perfectly use FL Studio at the beginning because I never had help from nobody.
3.47: Was this something you always wanted to do?
Lowself: Hell yeah! I knew since little boy that music would be my thing over the years to come. The fact that music would become one of my first interest was so obvious for me. It’s my main hobby now, when I am not working for university or hanging out with my friends/girlfriend, I make music.
3.47: Are you surprised at how big you become?
Lowself: Yes a lot. Well, I am not that big nor famous you know, but my music is now getting known all over the world. Everything have gone so quickly since MrSuiceSheep posted my single “Fall” under my alias Fake Static Noise. I really couldn’t believe it, because I was dreaming of being on this YouTube channel since yeeears. Now a new adventure begins with Lowself, but happily people have truly been following me so they know that I am changing my name, and I announced it on my fan page (the name will change in few days, I requested it)
3.47: What was your reaction like when you saw the feedback coming in about your music?
Lowself: Pure happiness. Lot of comments just make my days when I read them, the amount of positive feedback is huge on each track. There are a lot people supporting by sending me private messages on Facebook from everywhere in the world, other ask me to go and check their sounds for my own feedback. I like to get in close contact with the fans, I think that helps to get my work more appreciated, and it’s always a pleasure to discuss with people.
3.47: Are you playing live events or is that something you want to do?
Lowself: I played at great clubs here in Belgium but it was during the time i was making EDM (that bigroom sh*t) and was in that world which I can barely support now, I got literally tired of all of that. Now I don’t have any date but I would love to, for example, doing live performances with my guitar and pad or simply mix (usually chilltrap and bass music, with hip-hop touch and chillwave). There is an organisation/concept called “Futuristik Soul” here in Brussels, I would love to get in close contact with them.
3.47: Would you say making your own tracks is easier than a remix or just as hard?
Lowself: For me, remixing a track is easier because you already have that base that the original track gives, like vocals or melodies. And while producing a remix, the feelings ‘come more quickly’ I would say. Producing an original track is more difficult, because you have to do all on your own, you don’t have that kind of “guiding line” and you can go by 1000 different ways to make it (which is a good point too). But when you finish an original track and see the final piece, you are so proud, that’s so cool.
3.47: What do you do in your spare time?
Lowself: I make and listen to music, of course 😛 And as I am a Civil Engineering student I don’t have lot of time, so I just see my friends and my girlfriend, like normal people!
3.47: You worked with a few people, is there anyone out there you been wanting to work with?
Lowself: I already worked with some of my closest friends and it’s fun ’cause we do something we love together, but we never release official stuff. I generally go and make music on my own, but that doesn’t mean that I certainly will refuse any incoming request for collab. But I have a friend called “Shaparder”(check his soundcloud), this dude loves bass an future music too, we are planning to work together in the beginning of July.
3.47: What would you say are the advantage/disadvantage of been independent?
Lowself: The advantage is that I have all the liberty I want and make my music the way i love. I mostly release my music in free download and I can lead my music with no deadlines and any constraint at all. I handle myself as I want.
3.47: What’s your favourite song at the moment?
Lowself: “Tom Mish & Carmody – Atmosphere”, this track leaves me speechless, a pure gem. These weeks I am also a lot into Cashmere Cat’s music. I saw him playing in Brussels and it was incredible. I am a huge fan.
3.47: What can we expect from you in the future?
Lowself: Great things! I got signed on Liquicity Records with my “Fake Static Noise”. “Fall” has been remixed by two guys from Holland, Maxin and Ruben, and I can tell you it’s a hit. The remix will be featured on the upcoming “Galaxy of Dreams vol. 2” album which is incredible.
3.47: Do you have any other hidden talents?
Lowself: I am quite left-handed, can’t call that a talent 😀
3.47: If you had the power to run your own label, what would you call it?
Lowself: I have no idea at all, never thought about that. But surely a label signing and releasing more underground and alternative music, like futur soul, chillwave, chilltrap and chillout house!
3.47: What’s the best advice you been given?
Lowself: Don’t follow everybody and the mainstream movement, do what you love and believe in it.
3.47: Final question! Anything you want to say to your fans out there?
Lowself: Thanks to everybody for the love. I only make music for them and they make my dream come true. Sharing my music with people is that makes me complete as a person. That’s all.
3.47 would like to say a massive thank you to Lowself for spending the time doing the interview! Until next time guys!
