Interview: FroZn

Wow what a song to start the day off! My guest today is FroZn! He has created tracks such as Sky Temple (Video above), Déjà Vu and Shapeless to name but a few tracks! But why the name FroZn? Who would he like to work with next? And what software does he use to make these beats? The answers are in this interview!

3.47: How did the name come about?
FroZn: The name actually doesn’t have a special story or meaning to me since I like to express these things more in my tracks. Me and my friends were outside back then trying to think of a name for my new channel when suddenly one of them started to complain about the freezing weather. I didn’t know why but when I heard ‘freezing’ I instantly got the word ‘frozen’ in my mind and I liked it. I always wanted a more cold and mystical name and I thought ‘frozen’ was great. So when I was back at home I was thinking about how you could make ‘frozen’ look better and not that boring and that is how I came up with my name!

3.47: That’s pretty cool! I guess the fact that can go back to having a bit of a chilling feeling with each track of your helps! How long have you been making music for?
FroZn: Not quite sure to be honest. I think for 1 year and 9 months or something like that.

3.47: So not too long then! When you first started off did you show to your friends first and ask for their advice?
FroZn: Yes I did ask them for advice. I didn’t get much advice but sometimes I got advice that also helped me improve my music.

3.47: Was this something you always wanted to do?
FroZn: No, when I was a kid I always thought I am completely untalented in music until the day I downloaded Fl Studio to see how it is to produce the music I love to listen to and found out that it is quite fun to do shenanigans in Fl Studio. I later always got better and better and am now where I am now :).

3.47: How hard is it to use FL Studio? Also would you recommend any of software for beginners to use?
FroZn: Well, if you open Fl Studio for the first time you have no clue what all these knobs and buttons are but if you keep trying and learning you’ll get used to it pretty quickly. There are plenty of tutorials on youtube you can watch. I would recommend Fl Studio since it isn’t that expensive and you can easily get it in other ways aswell ;). I think it also has a great workflow and is fairly easy to get started and learn to use it in depth once you know the basics.

3.47: What was your reaction like when you saw the feedback coming in about your music?
FroZn: I was totally happy that people liked my music and that they also took their time to tell me they like it or even to tell me what they didn’t like. All the comments with feedback make me happy like on the first day. They help me to improve or just give me motivation to produce new tracks.

3.47: As I always any feedback is good so we can always improve on what we do! Would you like to play live at some point?
FroZn: Yes, but I don’t think I will be able to in the near future but at one point I would love to play live.

3.47: Never know you might get asked to play in your local town first and it may open the doors to new areas! From experience is making your own tracks easier than a remix or just as hard?
FroZn: Hmm, good question! I can’t really tell because it always depends on the track you are remixing and how much of the original track you want to have in your remix and other things can make it harder or easier than making your own track. I would say it is as hard to remix a song as making an own original track. I like making my own tracks more.

3.47: Yeah that’s a good point and I think that’s how you do get inspired by making your own new tracks! What do you do in your spare time?
FroZn: Homework and learning for school takes a ton of time. I play video games like Team Fortress 2 and Skyrim. I go outside with friends chilling or doing other things, I do judo and I play the keyboard. I also like to just go for a walk alone in the forest to get inspiration for my music.

3.47: Now that sounds awesome! I think that is one of the main reasons why I like to leave London is to be more with nature and walk in the forest! How long have you been doing judo for?
FroZn: For about 3 years or 2 and 8 months or something like that.

3.47: Given the chance who would you love to work with?
FroZn: Varien or Rameses B. Definitely one of those two great artists! Can’t decide between those two.

3.47: Hey hopefully they are reading this and say yeah wanna do a collab! What would you say are the advantage/disadvantage of been independent?
FroZn: You are independent. You can do whatever you want. You can experiment with every genre to find your style. You can take your time.

3.47: Agreed and I think a lot of people rather have creative control than been told what to make! Do you see yourself been signed later In life or do you just want to keep this as a hobby?
FroZn: I don’t really know yet. I probably will just keep it as a hobby but if I ever get a contract offered I could live from with all the liberty I need to produce music I can imagine to accept it but I think I will keep it as a hobby.

3.47: What’s your favourite song at the moment?
FroZn: Varien & SirensCeol – Moonlight (feat. Aloma Steele)

3.47: Good choice I like it! Any others?
FroZn: Yeah there are two other tracks I currently like a lot.
Kove – Way We Are feat. Melissa Steel (Dub Mix)
Champion – Phoenix

3.47: What can we expect from you in the future?
FroZn: New tracks! And I am thinking about some other projects in the future :). Maybe an EP? Who knows? You will see!

3.47: Can we get a hint into your crystal ball of what could be next? =)
FroZn: I am currently trying to get more in the drum and bass genre. Especially liquid drum and bass! Enough about that topic (laughs).

3.47: Do you have any other hidden talents?
FroZn: Being crazy. No seriously I think I am pretty good at sports. Well, being crazy also is a talent of mine (laughs).

3.47: Nothing with a little madness in your life! If you ask me it helps keep you on your toes! What sports do you like playing?
FroZn: I love to play soccer but I also like tennis. I do judo how already said and I enjoy other sports like basketball aswell.

3.47: If you had the power to run your own label, what would you call it?
FroZn: Probably something like Eternal Joy Records because I would only release chilled stuff and stuff that would make people happy while listening to it.

3.47: Eternal Joy … I like it! Well I’ll be looking out for it! What’s the best advice you been given?
FroZn: Don’t stop doing what you love doing because others may not love what you do. This helped me a lot.

3.47: Very good point and I think it is a problem we face nowadays where its more follow the leader but I’m glad to hear you are making yourself stand out! What advice can you give to people who want to be like yourself?
FroZn: Even though it is the advice everyone gives. Don’t ever stop believing in yourself and always keep training. If you don’t believe in yourself, who do you expect to believe in you? Training is the key to success. Some day people will find your music and they will love it if you do so yourself! Just keep doing what you hopefully do because you love doing it, producing.

3.47: Again very good point! I honestly hope that people take note and follow their dreams! Given the chance to run YouTube what would you change about it?
FroZn: Being able to add a download option.

3.47: Ohhh now that does sound different! Do you mean been able to buy and download a track or just some videos from YouTube itself?
FroZn: Just a free download option like you can add on SoundCloud. That you can enable it so the viewers who like it can quickly press the download button and the mp4 file is being downloaded. Without 3rd party software.

3.47: Final question! Anything you want to say to your fans out there?
FroZn: I love everyone out there who supports me! You won’t believe how much I love to read your kind comments and to see that you enjoy what I enjoy doing. Stay awesome guys!
